Originally, based on my own experience, the writing process is from a given topic to brainstorm to finish a draft, and finally finish the assignment. With learning more and deeply about writing, the writing process is becoming longer and longer. In addition to the brainstorm and draft, detailed outline, pre-writing, and peer review have been involved in the writing process now. After reading “The Process Approach to Writing Instruction”, I found more and detailed steps are needed to write effectively. Firstly, defining audience is one step I have never thought before. I suppose that if the target audience is defined, our writing can be more purposeful and be easy to understand. Secondly, feedback is another essential part in writing process, it is hard for us to realize the drawbacks of our writing. Others’ feedback can be beneficial to inspire us to increasing profound ideas and help perfect our writing. Thirdly, as the writer stresses the importance of research, I suppose that it is also necessary to develop the students to analyze a great deal of research, thus, their writing can be convincing. Finally, the revising strategy is of great significance to improve students writing. Revision of the writing is not only working for improve the writing quality, it is also meaningful for students to avoid the same mistakes in their next writing process. After reading this article, I hope that I can use these useful strategies in my own writing process, and I will take advantage of these strategies to teach writing in the future.
